Place de la Révolution

Not far from the Bank of the Republic of Burundi, framed by the Ministries of Justice and the Interior, the Place de la Révolution was built in the context of the end of the monarchy. On November 28, 1966, Captain Micombero dethroned the young King Charles Ndizeye, known as Ntare V, and, in what he called a "revolution", established the "First Republic". What's more, the monument planted in the square (with the gesture of three fingers held aloft to signify the motto "Unity, Work, Progress", a motto that would eventually become the national motto) is reminiscent of the UPRONA party, recognized as a single party by royal decree five days before the "revolution".
